Climate Crisis

Climate changes affect all species on Earth, and no one — whether plants, humans, fungi, insects, or animals — is exempt.

Climate Change is Likely the Greatest Threat to Life on Earth

Between 12 and 20 percent of greenhouse gas emissions are caused by deforestation and human-made wildfires. Climate change also means longer drought periods, leading to more frequent and intense wildfires, which in turn destroy more forests. In many places, forests cannot regenerate before the next wildfire strikes, and larger and larger areas are turning into permanent savannas and plains.

Forests of the World works to both conserve forests and halt deforestation. We also work politically to raise awareness of climate change and its consequences on the political agenda.

Severe Weather

We do not know the full consequences of the drastic changes we are causing the climate. However, we know that change is undeniably happening. We are experiencing rising seas, more frequent and severe floods, hurricanes, storms, droughts, wildfires, and other extreme weather events. This is only expected to worsen, as the global community is currently not doing enough to stop it. In the worst case, the consequences could be catastrophic, and life as we know it is threatened.

The Poorest Pay the Highest Price

The countries that are hit the hardest by climate change are often poor nations that has very few resources to cope with extreme weather. These countries are also often the ones experiencing the most deforestation.
