Anders Morten Christoffersen steps down as Chair of Forests of the World

By Helena Kjellerup Bigum

After many years of dedication to Forests of the World, Anders Morten Christoffersen is stepping down as Chair of the Board.

The decision follows Anders Morten’s appointment to a new position at the 15. Juni Foundation, one of Forests of the World’s donors, which also supports many other environmental organisations in Denmark. To avoid any conflicts of interest and ensure good governance, Anders Morten and Forests of the World have jointly concluded that he can therefore no longer continue on the Board.

Many years of dedication to Forests of the World

Anders Morten has been part of Forests of the World for many years, with ties to the organisation dating all the way back to when the association was called Nepenthes. Over the years, he has followed and contributed to the organisation’s development as a member, volunteer, Board member and, most recently, Chair.

“Ever since I smashed open my piggy bank in third grade to buy my first rainforest certificate, and later, after finishing upper secondary school, when I volunteered on Nepenthes’ projects in Ecuador, my heart has been with the organisation’s work – so much so that Carina has asked me several times whether I was actually married to her or to Forests of the World. I am incredibly grateful to have been part of Forests of the World and for all the experiences and relationships it has given me, and I am proud of the results we have achieved together. A huge thank you to all the volunteers and staff,” says Anders Morten.

A heartfelt thank you for his contribution

At Forests of the World, there is deep gratitude for Anders Morten’s many years of dedication and for the role he has played in the organisation. We are proud that he will continue working for biodiversity and nature in a new capacity.

Nanna and Jakob say: “Anders Morten has been an important part of Forests of the World for many years, and it is clear that his commitment goes back a long way. He has a deep love for the organisation, for the cause and for the people working for forests, nature and local communities. On behalf of the Secretariat, we would like to thank him sincerely for our collaboration, for his work as Chair and for the care and consideration he has shown the organisation. We wish him all the best in his new role.”

The work for nature continues

Although Anders Morten is now leaving the Board, this is not a farewell to his work for forests, nature and people. In his new role at the 15. Juni Foundation, he will continue working with nature and the green transition, but from a different position.

“Forests of the World is in a very strong position, with solid finances, a new strategy and an organisation undergoing rapid development. I had very much looked forward to continuing the collaboration with the new Board, the volunteers and all the staff, but due to conflict-of-interest considerations in my new role, I am obliged to step down as Chair. I look forward to following Forests of the World’s important work for forests and to bringing all my experience with me into my continued work for nature.” he continues.

The Board looks ahead to the next General Assembly

The Board has initiated a process to determine how the Chair function will be organised going forward. Until the next Annual General Assembly, these responsibilities will be handled by an interim Executive Committee led by Deputy Chair Jørgen Skytte. At the same time, the Board will use the period leading up to the General Assembly to discuss a long-term solution for the leadership of Forests of the World’s Board.

We congratulate Anders Morten on his new position and, at the same time, thank him sincerely for his many years of dedication to Forests of the World.
