Forests of the World selected as Strategic Partner of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Forests of the World has once again been selected as a Strategic Partner of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The new partnership will run from 2027 to 2031 and will allow us to build on our long-term collaboration.

Forests of the World has been selected as one of 19 Strategic Partners of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 2027–2031.

The new partnership provides a strong, long-term foundation for our work with Indigenous Peoples, Forest-dependent Communities, and civil society partners to conserve forests, uphold rights, strengthen local leadership, and support sustainable livelihoods.

“More needs to be done to strengthen the conditions, rights, and livelihoods that enable Indigenous Peoples and Forest-dependent Communities to protect and manage some of the world’s most important forests. This includes continuing to monitor deforestation and ensuring that local organisations have the tools they need to defend their forests and territories and strengthen their access to the political spaces where decisions are made. This partnership strengthens the foundation for that work.”

Nanna Jochumsen & Jakob Kronik, Co-Secretaries General, Forests of the World

The strategic partnerships are part of Denmark’s international development cooperation and aim to translate Denmark’s development policy strategy into action in close collaboration with local partners. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlights the expertise, local presence, and strong local partnerships of the selected organisations as central to achieving lasting results.

Long-term partnerships matter

At a time when civil society and rights are under growing pressure in many parts of the world, Denmark’s continued commitment to civil society and long-term partnerships matters. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs specifically points to strengthening civil society organisations that support democracy as an important purpose of the new partnerships.

For Forests of the World, the partnership will allow us to continue building on long-term collaboration with partners in Latin America and East Africa. Our international strategy puts local leadership at the centre: lasting forest conservation depends on strong local organisations and on Indigenous Peoples and Forest-dependent Communities having their rights recognised and being able to shape decisions about their forests and territories.
